Our Story

Second Generation Ltd. began with a bold move by a young, hungry entrepreneur.


In the late 1970s, Tom Embrescia—then 27 years old—leveraged his $600,000 commission and a $4.5 million deal with Barclays Bank to buy his first radio stations. He wasn’t just chasing profit; he was chasing potential. From his working-class Cleveland roots and early sales career to major market media deals, Tom built his success on instinct, timing, and the belief that you have to “fall in love” with a business to make it work.


What followed was a whirlwind of smart buys and timely exits—from turning underperforming FM and TV stations into FOX-affiliated moneymakers to engineering $275M media deals that reshaped the local market.


But Tom’s story isn’t just about deals. It’s about legacy. In the early 2000s, he began transitioning his focus toward building a diversified, multigenerational firm—expanding into domains like medical technology, real estate, and top-level internet domains (including .JOBS), all while teaching his family the values of stewardship and entrepreneurship.


Today, Second Generation is led by Tom and his son, Matt Embrescia, who brings that same passion, curiosity, and Cleveland grit to every venture the company backs. Together, they’re building not just businesses—but a lasting impact for future generations.

At age 28, Tom closes his first major leveraged buyout—launching the basis for what would later become Second Generation Ltd.

1980s–1990s

Builds and sells a portfolio of radio and TV stations across the U.S., including major-market FOX affiliates.

1998

Engineers a $275 million deal consolidating Cleveland radio groups for sale to a Texas-based media firm.

2002
